The Aviator3/5
Strnage is the best description for this movie. A lot of artistry went into it, and its technical features and cinematic skill are fantastic, it may win an oscar or two.
The story itself is intriguing, though more than a little disturbing in some (or most) scenes. The movie depicts Howard Hughes, and a period of his life from when he gained his empire to a point during its duration. I remarked to my firend, Martin Scorcese (forgive my spelling) should go back to elementery school because he obviously never learned that every story has to have a beginning, middle and end. The beginning was kind of missing, the middle was definitly there, overlong in my opinion getting repetitive at a point, but the ending was deplorable. There really was none. There were many chances for a good, fulfilling ending, but the film ends in a pivotal scene where you want to know what happens next, and I don't think Scorcese intends on a sequel.
The acting besides that was marvelous, as well as the scenes in themselves. Leonardo DiCaprio, though still gorgeous didn't look much himself throughout the movie. He performed very convincingly, in a very hard to play role (he lost his mind, very crazy). Cate Blanchett played Katherine Hephburn. Very good also, I liked hos she took on Kate's accent, a big part of her indentity, and did not fail at it either. Kate Beckinsale (whose nae took me forever to remember) played Eva Gardner, very well also. Gwen Stefani and Jude Law appeared also as famous actors.
The most disappointing parts of the film were its lack of ending, prolonged length, and mysteries never explained. (examples:white lights, certain stuff about his childhood, etc.)
Meet the Fockers4/6
I'd say, better than its precedent, Meet the Parents. Robert Deniro played the same role, very well, as did Ben Stiller(Greg) and his fiance(Pam) and her mother. Dustin Hoffman and Barbara Streissand (however you spell it) play his parents. They are hilarious and give the movie its funny comedy moments. The movie involves a lot of sexual humor, as Barbara works as a sexual therapist for older people and her husband is just as sex-crazed. New also to the plot is Pam's nephew, who is between a toddler and infant age. DeNiro has taken the role of teaching the baby, inspired with classical music, "smart" toys, hand signals, and other such ideas. He almost replaces Jinxie's role from the first movie, though Jinxie also plays here as he fights with the Focker's chiauau (I don't know how to spell that either, lol). The plot is not so serious this time, but instead of Greg being in trouble with everyone, DeNiro finds himself outside "the circle of trust". DeNiro again takes up his CIA tactics against Greg in suspicion of a bastard son (whom Greg doesn't even know about). Pam finds herself pregnant, a secret kept only from DeNiro. DeNiro's wife rediscovers her want of pasion with DeNiro, which they recapture in the end. Not bad altogether, strong performances from all of the cast, thought no outstangin ones. Plot was interesting, mysterious and the comedy was funny.
